WORLD IS BURNING TOTE BAG

The image of a burning American flag signals multiplicities. Though long associated with dissent, it can also symbolize reverence: according to the American Legion's Officer's Guide and Manual of Ceremonies, the proper way to retire a flag is to commit it to "a clean and purging flame." It's an image full of paradox: of destruction and renewal, of the political and the personal, of cultural and environmental, of ceremony and degradation.
